Spaghetti Bolognese for Meal Planning

Spaghetti Bolognese

Recipe:
  • 25g butter
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 500g mince
  • 1/2 table salt
  • 400g can tomatoes in juice chopped
  • 135g of tomato paste
  • 3/4 packet of spaghetti noodles
Instruction:
  1. Pan cook onion in the oil until browned. Add mince and brown. Start to boil noodles.
  2. Add vegetables, tomatoes in juice and tomato paste. Simmer for about 15 mins and vegetables are tender.
  3. Serve noodles onto plates with mine mixture on top.
  4. Garnish with a little-grated cheese and herbs
What is the focus of the meals that we are cooking for this unit?
- The focus of this unit is to balance food according to what is more healthier to eat and appropriate for us.
Apply variations and substitutions to the recipe that you would use and why would you make these changes.
- Instead of butter, we used 1 tbsp of oil, we used 200g of mince, and we just used 2 tbsp of tomato paste instead of one can. You could apply these alternatives to suit your diet and these are all to prevent cooking too much which lead to wasted foods.
The butter has more fats than oil so it is more favorable to use. 500 g would be too many so reduce it into 200-300g as well as the tomato paste.
Since our main goal for this term is to achieve meal planning, these alternatives that we applied in our dishes are really helpful to us.

Tomorrow When the War Began pt.1

Chapter One

Must Do Questions:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of first-person narration?
The advantages of the first person narration are that she can detail things from her perspective and can express her own feelings. The disadvantages are that there are things that can’t be detailed like the thoughts of the other characters and some things happening in their surroundings.
Why do you think Ellie needs to tell the story in chronological order?
For us to understand it clearly. Sometimes if the story is told in a not chronological order we find it so difficult to understand especially when we are thinking why did something like that? what happened before that for this scene to occur?
Pick one interesting word from the chapter, find its meaning, and explain why it is interesting.
Hermit. I wonder who is he and if the story is true about him. Would the characters meet him?
John Marsden foreshadows several events and characters in this chapter. Make three predictions based on the evidence in the text about what may occur later in the story.
  1. The war.- It says there in Ellie’s pov that “None of us wants to end up as a pile of dead white bones, unnoticed, unknown, with no one knowing or appreciating the risks we’ve run”
  2. Chris- “ To be honest I’m only writing about the pool to avoid doing what I’m meant to be doing. That’s like Chris, finding ways to avoid things he doesn’t want to do”
  3. Lee- “ Corrie had been puzzled when I’d said I wanted to ask Lee/ We didn’t really hang around with him at school. He seemed a serious guy, very into his music, but I just thought he was interesting” and then she continues to introduce him by detailing things about Lee.
What kind of story do you think Ellie is going to tell? Uses evidence from the text to support your answers.
Ellie will tell a story of when did it starts, where and who is involved especially in her plan of getting to hell. She will state the details about their trip to Hell and what is the after the event of getting to Hell.
What set of skills do these characters have that convince their parents that they can ‘go bush’ independently. Find examples of three characters.
  1. Ellie. She has this personality where she can hook people with her words. She can play words and make them be persuaded.
  2. Robyn. She is the kind of daughter with strict parents. She even had a long conversation with her parents before she was allowed to go on the trip. With her patience and endurance, she managed to convince them
  3. Lee. Lee is the easiest person to induce his parents. As of the description to him in this chapter, he is a serious guy and sort of an obedient man.

Essay Making The Power of One pt.2

Here is my second part of my blog about essay making like what's in my title. Right now, this blog will contain the third paragraph and the conclusion.

In additional, Doc also became his staircase to look for purpose in life. In the scene where they went to the prison, where it was shown that Doc let PK show the Africans and it was the beginning of the building of purpose of PK’s life again. Doc introduced PK to a lieutenant but he was busy so they met Geel Piet. Then, boxing was now formed in PK’s passion in his heart. The director executed this moment to show us the new personality that is being built in his character. After being brave from the sufferings that he been through where one of it was he lost his ‘mother courage’, boxing made him stronger too and now in a physical manner. This was the meaning that Doc said to PK that his body and education is the crucial things in life. To improve PK’s physical state, Doc saw a way to enter him in the world of boxing. It made a big effect on audience perception. The audience perceived how PK was having the great talent in boxing. And boxing made a way to push PK’s heart closer to Africans. Not only he found his purpose but it also added up to more purposes. Being close to Africans was a bad thing for that time since Afrikaners are leading Africa and it didn’t matter for PK cause what he believed is friendship and unity. Afterall, he grew up associating with Africans which made his bond to them stronger. This can be linked to the scene where the cruel act of the sergeant to Geel piet where he commanded Geel Piet to eat manure sticking in his feet. If how PK is being united and bonded with the Africans, that’s how hatred Afrikaners feel towards Africans.

Pk was so lucky to have Doc not only as his grandfather but also as his guide to lift up himself after all the hardships he suffered in life. He lifted himself to look for purpose in life and he found boxing as his passion, he saw things differently from before, he learned new things and gained knowledge being Africa as his classroom and his life got much better than as it is before. This moment is certainly an important moment to prepare us for another scene. We saw how enlightenment was in PK’s life after meeting his grandfather.

Essay Making of The Power of One

Hello everybody! Today I'm going to share you the essay paragraphs I worked on in my English class. I'm going to cut my paragraphs cause I know it will be really long if I'm gonna put it all here. Now, here's my introduction, first and second paragraph.

Do you know how lucky you are when you have someone to lift you up at the time of your worst days? The director of ‘The Power of One’, John Avildsen showed us the key moment that helped us to prepare for another moment in the film and it is when he accepted his grandfather’s hand. This moment created a big impact on PK’s life which established him hope to continue his life and his grandfather served as his guide  and staircase to search and build purpose to live. It also made him learned so much things in living which is beneficial for him since he doesn’t have parents anymore and even though he experienced all of this adversity in life, it made him realize that in the end of the day there is an aid to all the sufferings.

It was a devastating situation for PK when he lost important people in his life but it is also a rising hope when he met his grandfather. For instance, this is the moment when PK’s grandfather approached him and cheered him up. In this scene, PK’s face became brighter and enthusiastic as his grandfather showed him interesting things like talking to his donkey. After all the adversity that PK suffered like losing his mother, nanny and even his chicken ‘mother courage’, being bullied to school that made his life in the boarding school living like in hell, the coming of his grandfather was like a surprise, not in a bad way but in a good way. The surprise didn’t made his life in a worse situation but it lightened his life and made him see in the other side of the beautiful life. The purpose of the director of this movie is to inform the audience that PK’s life doesn’t only circling around miserable and cruelty happenings but there are also genuine joy and happiness that will come to his life. This prepare the audience that after the handing the hand of PK to his grandfather scene there will be a change to life of PK, a good change. This made the audience feel assured that the childhood of PK was still in good hands and it is because of his grandfather. The scene helped audiences to get a hint that after that moment his grandfather will lift him up and will teach him stuff to live as a normal kid. He made PK learned something from life despite all the hindrances that stopping PK from savouring the good life. This can be juxtaposed to the next moment of the scene where he got trained by Geel Piet to box and that is one of the main reason of meaningful existence of PK.

Moreover, PK’s life was led to a more desirable life together with the guide of his grandfather. At the particular clip in the movie, PK said that he is taught how to see things differently the way he had before by his grandfather. His grandfather, Doc, he accompany PK to see the varieties of life. He made PK explore life without school where in school PK just faced deprivation of living happily but been bothered with the immature acts of the Afrikaners. Avildsen made the viewers perceive how things got change in the life of PK when he is with Doc. Avildsen instituted the scenes where we can see Doc initiated the journey to PK explore the nature. The audiences understand how Doc loved PK. Doc knows that he himself undergo in the same situation that he also lived alone after his family got killed by Hitler because they stand in their ground as they believed in having peace. Doc is aware of the feeling of being lonely and he don’t want PK to experience this kind of emotion. He stayed in PK’s side and educated him with his knowledge as he stated that a person’s fundamental needs in life are health and education. PK is in a good and healthy body but his education needed a deep attention. Doc toured PK around Africa and Africa served as PK’s classroom of learning. Everyday was his study sessions and it began at sunrise of every morning. Later in the moment which can be link in this scene, is the coming of the Afrikaners announced the citizenship of Doc because he came from the Germany but got stuck to go home and it is a problem again.

Class Essay- The Power of One

Hello! In our English class, we are preparing for our essay writing and Ms. Richardson is guiding us how to do it. We did how to write an introduction, add the SEXXY paragraph and conclusion for our essay,
Introduction:

2 ways to start off an introduction.
A Rhetorical Question
A Quote
How you doing
T:  Title of the Book
A:  Author  of the Book/ Director of Film
K: Keywords from questions
O: Outline of your ideas

Question:
Describe one important moment in the text. Explain how that moment
changed at least one important relationship or character, supporting your points with visual and / or oral language features.

Brainstorm-
When Geel Piet Dies- He taught PK to fight- changes how PK views boxing

When PK sees Maria at the Boxing- Sexual tension between Pk and Maria,
                                                        - Maria is willing to do things she shouldn’t
                                                          to be with PK

When PK teaches the Natives English
- Shows that PK has respect for the Native Africans,
- PK cares for people regardless of their race.

When PK’s chicken is hung and killed.
- Pk loses his symbol of courage, family, guardian and his only friend in the school
- PK doesn’t seek revenge against all Africanas- later dates Maria
- PK becomes braver and stronger, stands up to others, stands his ground.

Example Introduction
Have you ever experienced an event that changed your life? In (A) John Avildsen’s (T) ‘The Power of One’, (K) a moment that changes the main character PK’s life is when his beloved pet chicken ‘Mother Courage’ was strung up and killed by his schoolmates. (O) This is shown by the way PK loses not only his chicken, but his symbol of courage and friendship, his ability to not hold the actions of one against a whole race and how he learns to stand up to people who are bigger than him.

Pk loses his symbol of courage, family, guardian and his only friend in the school

[S]When Pk’s chicken ‘Mother Courage’ is killed, PK loses his symbol of courage, his only remaining family and his only friend at school. [E] In this scene, Borta the school bully tries to blame the English for the killing of Africanas families in concentration camps in South Africa. He claims that Hitler will punish the English for their actions and that he will punish the English too, starting with PK by killing his chicken. He has the chicken strung up on a rope by its legs and kills it by firing a stone at its chest using a slingshot. {X} The chicken, ‘Mother Courage’ was given to PK by the witch doctor as a guide to help him find his courage and overcome his bed wetting. Therefore, when the chicken is killed, PK’s symbol of courage is killed with it and PK will now have to be courageous on his own. PK had also lost his father and mother, so the chicken was the only family he had left when he went back to boarding school. In this way, we see the character of PK change as he learns to live without family and friends and find his own source of courage. This links to later in the film when his boxing coach Geel Piet is killed by a guard and PK once again loses his friends and family.

{L}- In this way we see that PK has lost his symbol of courage, is only family and his friend.
(L)-In this way, we see the character of PK change as he has to learn to live without family and friends and find his own source of courage.
{L}- In this way, we see the character of PK change as he learns to live without family and friends, and find his own source of courage. This links to later in the film when his boxing coach Geel Piet is killed by a guard and PK once again loses his friends and family.

Another way the character of PK is developed as a result of the death of his chicken is that he is able to forgive and not hold grudges against a whole race of people for the actions of a few. At this point in the film, we see that the Africana boys hold a grudge against all English because of the actions of some in the past. When they killed his chicken, PK could follow their example and hate all Africanas because of Borta and his friends, but he chooses to embrace people of different cultures and only blame the person for their actions, not the race. The director includes this scene to let the audience know that PK as an English man will face difficulties from the Africanas throughout his life. This links to later in the film when PK wants to date Maria, but her father will not allow it because PK is English and Maria is an Africana. PK chooses to date her anyway, because he looks beyond a person's race.

Conclusion- MIRROR- reflect the points of your essay.
The event that changed PK’s life was when his chicken ‘Mother Courage’ was killed by Borta and the Africana boys at his school. As a result of this incident, PK had to learn to find his courage from within, to make new family and friends, to treat all peoples with respect regardless of their race, and to stand up for the things he believes in. In this way, we can see the importance of this scene in the overall film.

Word Vomit

It was a tiring day so I laid down on my bed. No more eating, no more bath, nothing at all.
When I was in a deep sleep, I was in a dimension of people are shouting at me and they are attacking me. I ran and ran until it was the dead end. What to do? Come on brain work! But it didn't and then I looked into my right side, I saw a rope crossing over the next building. I was like HUWATT? How did it do that? Who? But the people are getting closer to me so I don't have any choice but to walk into the rope to get to the next building. I can't believe what happened next! I know people who perform in the circus only do this kind of thing but men! I can balance. I don't know how I don't know why. I was in nearer in the building in front of me but I think I don't really don't know what's happening. I got out of balance and it was so close that I almost fell. I thought it was the last day of my life but it was not. I just only knew that it was only a dream. Hooo! that was a tough dream.

Life Changing Inventions

As we learn about the technology in our Social Studies, we are asked to do a poster about the inventions which created a big impact in our lives today.

I've researched 3 things that rised in our world with the help of technology and filed it up in one poster.

Here's my poster. There you can see what is the invention, how is it
used and how is it useful to us and also who is the inventor.

Sacrificial Protection

We've been studying and conducting an interesting experiment this week and last week. We are learning about metals. But today I'm going to share with you our experiment about sacrificial protection metals to nails.

Aim: To identify which metals has the most rust and least rust in the nails.
Equipment:
  • Test tubes (6)
  • Iron nails (6)
  • Test tube rack
  • Aluminium metal wire
  • Copper metal wire
  • Magnesium metal wire
  • Nichrome metal wire
  • Water

Method:  Put water to the 5 test tubes and leave the one test tube without water. Wrap the metal wires in the 4 nails. Use the sandpaper to take off the coating of copper and aluminium metal wires for clearer results. Leave it for two days.

Results: Unfortunately, we didn't take off the coating properly so the results didn't show off clearly as the others. But we've also discussed about this and I will share it to you.

  • Iron nail in the air -slightly rusted
  • Iron nail in the water- mostly rusted
  • Iron nail w/ copper-  mostly rusted
  • Iron nail w/ magnesium- slightest rusted
  • Iron nail w/ aluminium- slightest rusted
  • Iron nail w/ nichrome- slightly rusted

Conclusion:
This experiment relates to the reactivity of the metals and corrosion. As of my research and what Ms. Boothby taught to us, iron is a reactive metal to water which leads to what we called corrosion. Corrosion means when the metal breaks down and forms compound on the surface of the metal. It is causes metal to corrode because it is exposed to the oxygen and water which forms oxides. Corrosion results to rusting of the metal.

But how about magnesium and aluminium? They are reactive metals too. Here comes the sacrificial protection. Almuminium and magnesium are more reactive than iron so they protect iron and they are the one who's sacrificing to corrode. This process is called galvanizing.

Are students addicted to their phones?

Now we are going to discuss my opinion on the topic : Are students addicted to their phones? Here's my SEEL paragraph stating my stand about this.

I believe that students are addicted to their phones for either good and bad reasons. This is because some of them use it for really good purpose and some for just unimportant things. One example of a good reason for this is that some use it for studying, especially those that are not comfortable in using books as their essentials in learning. In the other side of it, instead of studying they just got distracted to other platforms of technology and dive more into it. For more advantages of being addicted to the phone is that you are always updated to what is happening in the world and opposing to this is that sometimes you are driving into other pieces of information that might be the reason of depression and anxiety. For example to this is viewing other's people's lives and get envious of them cause you don't have that kind of life like them. These are my point of view about this certain topic that is really relevant to our generation.

Listening Skill Test in Music

Song: Green Lights by Lorde

Listening Questions:

Tempo: Fast

Dynamics: Loud

Genre: Pop, Alternative, Indie, Electronics

Home Economics Theme: Meal Planning

Yesterday, we did some cooking for our practicum relating to our topic for the term which is meal planning. Below are the guide questions for us about the practicum we conducted:

Name 3 nutrients gained from yesterday's recipe:

  1. Fiber
  2. Carbohydrates
  3. Iron

What benefits would yesterday's practical offered an individual?
-The benefits will be it is easy to cook and it is really fit to be served in group or family if an individual is cooking for much of people. It is also tasty and healthy. It also gives skill for the cook to predict how much time will pasta get cooked and edible, how to put the right measurement of ingredients to achieve the right taste.

All-in-one Tasty Pasta
All-in-one Tasty Pasta

Serves: 4  10 mins prep time  20 mins Cook time
Get a tasty meal on the table the whole family will love in less than 30 minutes. Even better it’s all cooked in one pan, so fewer dishes to do!
Ingredients
300g lean beef mince
1/2 onion, peeled and chopped
3-4 button mushrooms, sliced (optional)
420g can Wattie's Tomato and Garlic Pasta Sauce
1 ½ can water or beef stock (add as needed)
2 cups small pasta spirals
1 ½ cups Wattie's frozen Mixed Vegetables
Chopped parsley (optional)

Method
Heat a dash of oil in a large frying pan and quickly brown minced beef and onion over a moderately high heat. This may be best done in two batches.
Add the mushrooms if using, Wattie’s Tomato and Garlic Pasta Sauce, water or stock and pasta and stir until the mixture comes to the boil. Cover, lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes until the mince and pasta are tender.
Stir in the Wattie’s frozen Mixed Vegetables and simmer gently for only 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are hot. Season to taste and add a handful of chopped parsley if wished.

State how the recipe meal could be altered to cater to your families needs:
-Well, the recipe for yesterday's can serve 4 and if it will be served by more people, of course, the measurement of the ingredients should increase the quantity. You can also add some varieties of vegetables and you can change the meat which is beef to other alternatives.

Maori Music for a Modern Audience

We've been researching about Maori's music this week. I am happy to present you a Maori song that really is a great one. Māreikura, a song that sang by New Zealand singers MMQ featuring Awhimai Fraser. This song is relaxing but with a strong music aspect that is soothing to the ears together with a traditional chant and played by a contemporary guitar rhythmic.

MMQ wrote and created this song being inspired and giving admiration to the women in the world which they say 'pilllars that provide foundation to the world'.

Since then when I hear my Maori schoolmates singing, I am always amazed how they harmonize their voice and that's what I also really liked about the song Māreikura.  The song feels like it's not complete with the delightful voices of the singers. Their harmonized voice gives color to the song and it really is wonderful.

I love how simple the video was made. It is filmed in a studio where you can see the singers sing with their hearts. I love how one by one the singers are being shown. The song was delivered very well even though two only instruments are used. Their vocals are their strength to convey the song.

Māreikura is the Maoris best way to celebrate Matariki. Māreikura literally means the supreme Goddesses of the Twelfth Heaven. They treat women as the doorway to life and they cherish women as they are the heartbeat of the Maori culture.

On the other side, Kirsten Te Rito is also a great New Zealand artists. She is an award-winning from Wellington, New Zealand. One of her songs is the  'Oranga'. Check her out here and discover things about her more.

What is Matariki?

Matariki. It is the given Maori name for the cluster of the seven sister stars or also known as the Pleiades. This cluster of stars is the sign of the New Year's celebration of Maoris.

Most people celebrate the Matariki by:
  •  Completing the storing of food for the upcoming winter.
  • Weave clothes and baskets.
  • Storytelling to old tribal stories and reminiscing the ancestors.
  • Discover and learn about nature.
  • Have fun to learn string games.
  • Make your own, decorate and fly kites.
There are different stories about Matariki and its origins. The following is one of them that comes from Māori Astronomer Dr. Rangi Matamua.

Not all the children of Ranginui (Sky) and Papatūānuku (Earth) supported their parents being separated. Tawhirimātea, the God of Wind had strongly opposed the separation but had been overruled by his siblings. In return, Tāwhirimātea waged war against his siblings defeating them all except Tūmātauenga, the God of War. Tū was angry with Tāwhiri for what he had done, so to punish him he tore his eyes out, smashed them and threw them into the sky. They remain there to this day as the star cluster Matariki. Thus, this is why the wind is so changeable as he is stumbling around blind.

Other cultures also have their own stories about these stars.

I'd created a poster about Matariki and here's more information about Matariki!

Term 1 Reflection

As the Term 1 ends, Term 2 is the next beginning. Today, we are going to recall and reflect things happened as I finish my journey in learning to ESOL in Term 1 of the school year.

What did I do well?    I did give my attention and understanding while I'm in the room listening to the teachings of  Ms. Briggs. I did all of the tasks that she is assigning to us and I am actively engaged in learning. I participate in the class and ready to give out my best to improve my knowledge in learning ESOL.

What could I have done better?   I could have given time myself to talk and associate with others. I could have given myself to think better and share my knowledge with Ms. Briggs and the other students.

What will I do next?    Next time or in this term, I will make sure to improve my engagement in the classroom. To be more active as I can, to digest and use all the information that will be taught by Ms. Briggs and to lend my ears to the other students when they are sharing their learning as our class got one student, Devie.

I'm happy to be part of this class cause I learned so much to Ms. Briggs and my classmates even though we just have one-period per week. I can still remember how I laugh and enjoy the game that we did in the 'dumb ways to die'song.I'm looking forward to more knowledge and fun in the class this term and for the next more term.
