  • Read more novels in ESOL when it's 'Ako Time'
  • Help my classmates when they need me

Writing Creative Places

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Much of Holden’s trek around the city takes place in the Upper West Side—at the Plaza Hotel, the Museum of Natural History and Central Park—and many of his descriptions of New York remain accurate to the way the city looks today.

From the book: “I live in New York, and I was thinking about the lagoon in Central Park, down near Central Park South. I was wondering if it would be frozen over when I got home, and if it was, where did the ducks go? I was wondering where the ducks went when the lagoon got all icy and frozen over. I wondered if some guy came in a truck and took them away to a zoo or something. Or if they just flew away.”

My continuation of the story:

In every day of my life living there, I frequently tarry near the lagoon. It welcomed me warmly when I first met it. The lively trees, those ducks packed and swim together, the bridge that connects the two surfaces, the buildings behind the view of the lagoon that are feasts to the eyes when the lights shine through the night, all of them creates the simple perfection. People passing by appreciate the beauty of the land and the water that seems to be one. Just like them, that is what I came for. The elegance of the nature that brings comfort to everyone seeing it. Hundreds of steps are worth exchanging for and I'm ready again to meet it.

Metaphors and Similes

What are metaphors and similes?

Metaphors and similes are figures of speech. They are used to enhance and give more colors to our writing. When we write metaphor, it is the way we compare something but not literal on what is in the text and doesn't use "like" and "as". While similes, we use "like" and "as" to compare one thing to another.

2 songs that have similes and metaphors in it:

Your Love by The Outfield

You're the one that never lets me sleep
Through my mind, down to my soul you touch my lips
You're the one that I can't wait to see
With you here by my side I'm in ecstasy

I am all alone without you
My days are dark without the glimpse of you
But now that you came into my life
I feel complete
The flowers bloom, my morning shines
And I can see

Your love is like the sun
That lights up my whole world
I feel the warmth inside
Your love is like the river
That flows down through my veins
I feel the chill inside

Every time I hear our music play
Reminds me of the things that we've been through
In my mind I can't believe it's true
But in my heart the reality is you

I am all alone without you
My days are dark without the glimpse of you
But now that you came into my life
I feel complete
The flowers bloom, my morning shines
And I can see

Your love is like the sun
That lights up my whole world
I feel the warmth inside
Your love is like the river
That flows down through my veins
I feel the chill inside

Your love is like the sun

That lights up my whole world

I feel the warmth inside
Your love is like the river
That flows down through my veins
I feel the chill inside

Ehu girl by Kolohe Kai

Said it happened last night about ten to eleven
when I first layed eyes on you,
Standing in line, into Club Triple seven
It was just like heaven and a dream come true,

We’re standing at the right place at the right time,
When you, this ehu girl, caused the crime.

You’re my pretty little ehu girl who made me a fool in love,
You got my heart all in a whirl and now it needs cooling off,
You set my heart on fire and now I don’t know what to do,
You set my heart on fire and now I’m so in love with you my ehu girl

Said I’m feeling it now, something I’ve never felt,
My hearts so hot I think I’m gonna melt,
Somehow, I want to see you again
My love, sent from above.

And beautiful girls yes I’ve seen a few,
but out of all the beauty in the world there’s no one quite like you.
My ehu girl
The way your ehu hair flows in the air,
The way your shining eyes reflect the sky,
The way your smile burns up my flame,
But I don’t know your name and I guess I’ll call you my

Soundtrack of my life

In our English class today, we are assigned to make our 'soundtrack of my life'. This is to know each other and to also recall some beautiful memories from the past that bring meanings in our life. Below is my slide for a little about me and the soundtrack of my life:
