Reflection

I think the successful things that we did for PBL is that we passed all the disablers that came along our way and we learn new things which are the purpose of the project. We also achieved our goal to help the victims of domestic violence and we gained friendship. The unsuccessful the thing that we did is that when we presented our presentation we lacked confidence. Some of my groupmates giggled while talking in front and I also stuttered. Maybe the reason why we did these kinds of stuff while we are presenting is that we are not that inspired and dedicated to doing it.

Being happy while doing this PBL, to complete the checkpoints, to communicate and help each other, to help the people who are suffering from domestic violence, and to inform students in our school about the awareness to domestic violence are our goals in PBL.Oh! To perform in the auditorium is also our goal. All of the goals are achieved except to the last one which is to perform in the auditorium. They didn’t pick us to present to the auditorium because our presentation lacked so many things but we accepted it already. We just planted in our mind that we will do our best next time.

Being able to motivate others is the best personal action that I did to improve others.Motivating others gave me satisfaction and happiness. And one of my biggest motivation that I say is that dream big.Doesn’t mean you dream big is you will achieve it easily but dream big because you the right to dream and you will be reaching it just yourself. If you fail, then you fail but use it a stepping stair for your dreams.

If I would be given a chance to do differently, I would be more creative, confident, increase my willpower to do things and observe more. I would be more creative to build more ideas. Increase my willpower to do things for me to continue more what ideas I would like to build and observe more because observing helps me to be motivated.

Put action to words!

We're heading to our second action which to contact the women's refuge to ask for help about this project we are proposing and to give a small amount of donation for those victims of domestic violence. We first emailed them and we waited for days to see if they will reply to us but they did not which appeared to be the disabler of this action.

We're about to email them again but we thought that it will not be professional for us to do that so we still waited. When the time came that we are losing hope that they will respond to us, we went to their website get their contact details and decided to contact them.

So my groupmate Lahtia was the one who talked to them and finally, they agreed to our proposal which is we asked if they can speak here in our school Hornby High and to give also our donations. What enabled us is that we tried out to reached them not just once but twice which led us to finish the task,

Reflection: Give it a try not just once but twice because you may not know that your second time will be your chance to get the prize so don't give up until you achieve it.

Put action to words!

So our third and last plan are to do our fundraising which is carwash and let now the school be aware of domestic violence. We did the carwash at the Hornby Primary and it took us 3 hours to clean 12 cars that day.It was fun but super tiring to the point that I thought I'm going sick but fortunately, I did not. Before we did the carwash, we gathered first our equipment which is a long process and one the disablers of this action. Walking around the school again searching for the person and the equipment.

While we are doing the carwash, we had fun and gained a new skill. I was assigned to do the tires and it is one of the hard parts of the car. So if you will calculate it 4 wheels each car and there are 12 cars in the total of 48 wheels that I cleaned................. and yeah it was so super tiring. We were like wet chicks after we finished it. But the thing here is that we enjoyed and it is worth working for because we've been paid $60 and the money goes to the victims of domestic violence which is the goal of this project.

Yeah 48 of these

We got to handle this because of the people who helped us with kind heart and I would like to thank all the teachers who helped us especially Miss Tahooey, it was a pleasure to receive a kind heart from them and they are the one who enabled us to make the work done.

After that tiring day, we now inform students in Hornby High School. Women Refuge Janine came to our school and told us what does this organization is all about. We are so thankful for her not because she responds to us but she let us complete this project and we got to informed other students about domestic violence,  they truly have a kind heart.

We hope that our small help will reach the victims. We should still hold into our mind that "Nobody deserves to be hurt" and give hearts to those who are hurt.

Put action to words!

So our first action was to ask permission for us to allow to go outside for our fundraising which is carwash. We encountered a disabler when processing this action, like when we can't find the teachers we needed and also when the printing of the form that we're going to fill out was refused to print because there was a many line-ups of reports. Hence, we need to walk and walk until we find the person we needed and to inform our PBL teacher that our form was not printed.

For us not to get the hard searching person we are looking for, we decided to ask the other teachers if they know where is the exact person we are looking for. The form that we will fill up got to be printed with the help of Mr. Stock.

These pictures here are the form that we filled out.

Overall, our first action had a good outcome. We got to ask for help and they responded with a kind hand and that is what enabled us to complete our first action.
For my reflection in this action is that asking for help is important especially at the times you can't handle it anymore and being shy to ask is not a good thing for you because getting a help from others feels like not you're not alone in this task.

Last week, we cooked the baked potato. To do baked potato, the potatoes need to be in the oven for 20 minutes but sometimes the potatoes are not yet cooked so you need to put it again until the middle part is already soft to mash. So in short, you need to have patience while waiting for it to be cooked. You can also do something while you are waiting, for example, gather the ingredients and after you gather the ingredients you can do the cuttings. You can also do the ham frying so that you're not wasting your time.

2 Facts about sugar and what it has to do with your health
According to Marcola:
  • Your Brain

Eating sugar gives your brain a huge surge of a feel-good chemical called dopamine, which explains why you’re more likely to crave a candy bar at 3 p.m. than an apple or a carrot. Because whole foods like fruits and veggies don’t cause the brain to release as much dopamine, your brain starts to need more and more sugar to get that same feeling of pleasure. This causes those “gotta-have-it” feelings for your after-dinner ice cream that are so hard to tame.
  • It tricks your body into gaining weight and affects your insulin and leptin signaling. Fructose fools your metabolism by turning off your body's appetite-control system. It fails to stimulate insulin, which in turn fails to suppress ghrelin, or "the hunger hormone," which then fails to stimulate leptin or "the satiety hormone." This causes you to eat more and develop insulin resistance

Food tests

So we tested the bread, patty, and cheese and this is the result:

Tester
Biuret test for Protein
Starch test
Sugar test
Fat test
Bread
None
Yes
Yes
Not translucent
Patty
Yes
None
None
Translucent
Cheese
Yes
None
None
Not translucent

Evidence:

Biuret Test for protein:

Bread-

Patty-

Cheese-
It is not that clear but it turned violet when we tested it

Starch Test

So in this photo, you can see that the bread into blue-black color which means it has starch on it.
Maybe you are confused to the cheese and the patty why some part of it has blue-black color? Does it mean that it has starch on it too? The answer is no. It has parts that it turns into blue-black color because we did not separate properly the cheese and patty on the bread so there is some little piece in the tester. But in the other food test, we ensure that no more small piece of bread or whatever included.

Sugar test

You will know that there is sugar existing in a food when it turns into "brick-red color"

BREAD

 PATTY

CHEESE

Fat test
In the fat tests, I forgot to take a photo in it but I wrote down the results and it's on the upper part of this blog.

Conclusion;
I've learned that every food contains nutrients and it so enjoy to test it. The moment when you are waiting for it to turn into different color or even it doesn't change is so amazing. I've learned that when we are doing the experiment we should always remember that the protection gears are worn by us.

Nutrients

What nutrient/function do you have?
-The nutrient/function that we have carbohydrates, calcium, fats and sort of vitamins.
What impact does this have on your well being and overall survival?
-So the impact does this have on our well being and overall survival is that we will be more full than the others because I supposed that we have more food than them.We are richer than them in terms of healthy body.
If you could barter with a group, what would it be and why?
-If we could barter to our groups it would be foods that are rich in iodine that will help our brain function well and also a knife that will help us to cut things on the survival island.

"Let's Do It!"

So in these blog today I'm going to show what are the action plans that we constructed for our task which is helping those victims of domestic violence in our community get their freedom and happiness even though in a simple way .

"Nobody deserves to be hurt, but someone can hurt you more than you deserve"

Steps needed to achieve the goal.
What will help us achieve this goal?(Enablers)
Possible barriers and how they could be overcome.
Who is responsible for this step?
Date this step will be achieved by.
first we plan what fund we are raising
And our plan:
We decided to to car wash for our fundraising
We will provide the equipment for this fund raising.
We decided on the hornby primary school.
by working together as a team and getting things done. We will also have the equipment that we will be needing for this. We need to push our best and we need to work hard.
We must set our mind that we are doing this not because we want to finish this school project but we want to make a change for the society.
the people that we’re going to offer some car wash might not allow us to wash their car.
It could be a good or bad weather.
Roanne, devie,
Lahtia, and
thamhie.
November

We will email the  women’s refuge org. To ask if there are domestic violence victims in hornby .we will ask for their help to support us in our project or we could help them for the donations of the domestic violence victims.
By working together as a team and getting things done.
The good connection in terms of wifi.
They might not approved our Action and ignored our proposal.
We will do the other ways to contact them and we can visit their website that can help us to contact them.
Lathia, Roanne, DEvie And Thamhie
the day that women refuge approved our proposal and we estimate that either on wednesday to friday.

We will ask for permission to do our carwash on the hornby primary  school.
After that we will go outside to do our tasks.
If there are some students that will help us to do the fundraising, the work will be a lot easier.
Calm mind and patience.
The equipments that we will be using in the mission.
The limited time that we will have. We might don’t have the enough time to finish. The place might be hard to go.
Roanne, thamhie, devie, lahtia
27/11/17

After we collected and WE WILL NOW contact women refuge to give our donations .
lastly,We will now inform our school, family, and the community that we achieved doing positive impact in the society.
More time.
The people that will join our mission.
The good weather will help us more to continue the task.
They might not receive our donations or they might refuse .if they won’t receive it we’ll just give it the other day and we’ll leave a letter saying that we are offering some gift and we are genuine doing that to them.we will try to explain what is our purpose for the donations.
The weather too, if the weather is not nice we can just continue to the next day.
Roanne,thamhie,devie and lahtia
Not until the end of the term
We now completed the action plans and the barriers that might come on our way. Our action plan was already showed and checked to our teachers, now we are ready to step our feet outside and help the community with earnest desire.

"Give Hearts to those who are hurt"

In our school Hornby High, we created a group wherein there is a task for us to do and it is how can we have a positive impact on our community. We planned that each of o us chooses their own topic and after they are satisfied with the topic they want we gathered all the topics and discussed what should be our final topic. We chose domestic violence because we want to widen our knowledge about this topic and how can us millennials do something about this. Our group was named as LA.RO T.VIE, it came from the combination of our name which is Lahtia, Roanne, Thamhie, and Devie and we thought that it is unique.

For us to get some knowledge about the topic, we researched and look for some websites that can help us to understand more about it. Here are the websites we used:

Website Name`
Link
Date we accessed site
World Health Organization
13/11/17
Women's Refuge New Zealand
13/11/17
Abuse Hurts
13/11/17
Australian Constitute of Criminology
13/11/17
New Zealand Police
13/11/17
Then there are questions asking about our topics that we answered which are:
Who is affected? Everyone is affected because we are in one community. Women, men. adolescents and children.
What are the issues? Kinds of domestic violence like physical abuse, sexual abuse and etc. The increasing number of death and suicide because of domestic violence.
When did this start and how has it progressed? So we didn’t know when did this started but we are sure that domestic violence has happened back in old times, in the era of our old old old old ancestors. As time passes by, people inherit this act.Example: In Ancient Civilizations The Code of Hammurabi is the oldest written legal code known to exist. In it are provisions for disciplining a wife and children by the husband/ father.
Where is this happening? This happens worldwide. But according to the national surveys, the percentage of women being physically assaulted in New Zealand is 35%.
Why is this happening? Domestic Violence is happening because of the build-up tensions and a breakdown in communication.Stress and state in life or poverty are one of the biggest reason why domestic violence happens.

After that, we created a solution how to solve it.

We wanted to inform everybody that we millennials are one of the responsible for the problem and we also are trying our best to give everybody what they deserve. This quote from a story which is "He's Into Her" really inspired me to continue this project and it is the quote" Nobody deserves to be hurt, but someone can hurt you more than you deserve". This quote really summarizes our topic. It is just a simple quote but it really captures a heart .We desired to create a path to every victims of domestic violence which will lead them for their freedom and happiness.
