Mayon Volcanic Eruption Research (Week 2)

 WEEK 2 Research

Makey Makey!

INTRODUCTION
  It's been a while since my last blog about my DTE learning. Here I am again to tackle the topic and the project we've been working on the last term and until 2 weeks of this term. So our topic is about Makey Makey. So what is a makey makey?. Makey makey is a tool where people can use it to connect everyday objects to computer programs. (below is the photo in the DLO part) So to make it work you will need the makey makey, wires, usb cable, and a conductor ( can be you! cause you yourself is a conductor).  You need these things to create a circuit and then you will see how it works.
  
  What are we going to do with the makey makey?. Mr. Carter assigned us to research on how can we use makey makey. Then we chose what ideas we wanted to make out of makey makey and we'll create it by ourselves.

   We decided to do a controller. Heart-shaped controller specifically. And here it is:

REFLECTION
   Actually, our controller is not yet finished and it's not yet tested if it will work. Our original plan wasn't like this. The first plan is to create a controller and just put foil all over the bottom of the controller to make it easier and it will just one wire. But that made our problem. Mr. Carter showed that perspective to us and he helped us how to solve it. The point is to separate foil every button. Why? Because if we are going to use one foil, with one tap in a button all of them will work and we want is for buttons to work by themselves with one tap without affecting the other buttons. It seems complicated, yes, we found it like that too but it was making sense. We reversed the plan. We decided to cut some pieces of foil enough to cover the buttons. That solved the problem :).
   
   Our supposedly next step is to decorate it and to actually use it in a game but we lacked time. But it's alright because I found out that Devie ( one of my groupmates) worked on how to make it work. And she managed to check it and it worked. If only we really had time, I could say that it would be successful but it's undone.

Horror Camping Trip

     

The day has finally come that we're going to have our own trip. Me, Maine and Rhan are the best friends of all. We planned so many time to go on the best friends trip but it was always postponed as we are still focusing on our studies and our parents didn't allow us to go. I can't still believe it that we are truly having this day. 

 The smile hasn't wiped off in our face since we found out the good news. What's surprising is that our parents set this trip. They discussed and talked to each other. Well, haven't I told you that my parents and Maine's and Rhan's parents are best friends too? Amazing isn't it?. Curiously, I asked them what changed their minds to let us have our dreamed trip because I know that they are really strict to me. And they said that life is full of stressful and gloomy moments so mind to enjoy our teen life first before we go through the hole of problems. I never asked again. Too much joy was flowing into my blood.
We packed up things we needed. From the small and easy things such as 
hygienic and clothes to the biggest necessity which is the vehicle that we're going to use, the jeep. I don't know what model this is but I know it is a jeep. Rhan is in her legal age and so as she has her own license already. She's the driver.  

From start to finish of our road trip, we've been singing all the way. Laugh here, tease there. It's pure happiness. After the long ride, we halted. We have to walk 3 miles because vehicles can't go in. Wasn't a good idea but worth it. Seeing trees and plants makes me feel safe. The place, it was a forest and it gives me an eerie feeling but I still choose to go because it might be just a negative first impression.

 And I was right. I was right that it's just my intuition. The forest was actually the place I would like to go. The sounds of the birds chirping as they fly through above our heads. Nearby was the river that proudly shows its crystal clear water and its calmness that blends with the ambiance of the forest. The natural sounds that truly shows me the world; plugging me out of the toxic dimension of society. We spent all of the daytime doing activities such as hiking, sight-seeing, animal observing, gather the woods for later and built the tent.
        
 The night took over the daylight. Enthusiastically, we hurriedly bunched up together and surrounded the bonfire. We, trios, love to express our secret and dreams together. But that time shooked the tree of us when Maine had revealed something.

"Something was going on my mind for a while." Maine had her start off.                           
" Is it about studying? If that's the case, please not now " I mockingly said.                     
 "I've been wanting to tell you this but I know you would've freaked out. There's a hungry thing inside me that wants to tell my biggest hidden truth." she continued as she ignored me.                                                              

 "You sounds like absolutely horrific right now."  Rhan nervously uttered.                           
Maine smiled and you can sense the hesitation in her eyes but she is desperate to reveal her secret. " I have a third eye." popping out the bubble of her secret and it's now the truth is released.                                                   

 We fell silent, But she kept on going.                                 

" I was born with this and ever since I can see something that a normal person can't. I hated it when I realized that this ability of mine is that me seeing creatures that are so awful and frightful. Until the time came that I just have to embrace it and just let it be. I still hate it but I feel sad that those what I see are lost souls and I can't help them." still we are in awe.   
      
 " Even here in this forest, I can see new lost souls but I don't want to say it to you because it would spoil the camp and trip" she confessed. We looked up to each other and ran to the tent. Not minding the foods that we left beside the bonfire.

We didn't sleep that night until in the morning. The two of us, Rhan and me, didn't grasp the revelation at first yet we managed to ask for more information about Maine's ability. We were so close to each other and there was a time that I have to pee but I can't go outside alone so we together slowly walked outside the dark. Cowardly, we entered the tent again as we heard something in the bush. 


   That day will be remembered as it was the creepiest time of my life,

With the help of the Tree's body, the Lipad bird family is safe to stay there. Great friendship between the Tree and Lipad family is really unbeatable that even storm can't drag them down. Power, the power of the love they give to each other is unconditional and Lipad family being there is the best thing that Tree ever had. "Comes, no I mean come to me little birdies." said Tree in their first meeting. " Great and beautiful nest is waiting for you here. There were some birdies that built nests here but unfortunately, they migrated and I'm looking for someone to occupy the nest." pleaded Tree to the Lipad family. Responsibility is what Tree felt that time as he knows that the moment the Lipad family accepted his offer, he made responsibility to take care and secure them as long as they live in his parts.

Volcanic Eruption Research

A volcanic eruption is one of the extreme natural events that occur on our planet.  It happens because there is a hot liquid rock called magma that forms in the mantle of the earth’s layer and rises, could be because of too much pressure, and break through the crust then it creates an eruption. One of the examples of a volcanic eruption is the Mayon Volcano eruption which just happened last January this year. The Pacific Ring of Fire plays a big role in why volcanic eruptions occur.

The Pacific Ring of Fire or Circum-Pacific Belt is a horseshoe-shaped basin that shows seismically active regions where volcanoes(active), earthquakes, tectonic plates boundaries and epicenters can be found and the Philippines is one of the lists. The Pacific Ring of Fire serves as a guide and it is important because here we can see the countries that are certainly are affected with natural disasters especially volcanic eruption and earthquake and also experts uses this to study more about how and why such events occur. For example, experts look on the volcanic eruption phenomenon by their past and here they can find a pattern and percentages of when could some volcanoes erupt again. Pacific Ring of Fire hands in people with a perspective of disasters but at the same time Pacific Ring of Fire can give benefits to people and one can be when a volcanic activity where there could be a chance of tapping geothermal activity for heating and electricity.

Since the Philippines is in the belt of the Pacific Ring of Fire, in Albay, Manila Philippines, Mt Mayon volcano, its most active volcano, has already erupted 50 times in the last 500 years. The year 1814 was the volcano’s most violent eruption because it caused a massive devastation and killed 1200 people. Not only that year Mayon volcano became an extreme natural event, for example, 5 years ago the volcano once again took 5 lives. According to my research and I saw it on youtube( here’s the link), New Zealand is known for its having active volcanoes too and this year scientists are expecting that a volcanic eruption will occur.

The 6 Sentences Story

Once upon a time, there was a troubled and trapped fish. She lives in the ocean where the part it is bright. It has magnificent sharp eyes that can clearly see detailed places which are really rare for a fish like her. Because of knowing that it has unexceptional eyes, it was so brave and confident to go in the dark cave. Little did she know, it was her weakness to be in the dark and she felt regretful going there and got lost. She was determined to go out of the cave so she tried to swim reversely until it reached the bright hole where she came from.
