Work Songs

The topic for today is still on slavery. We've been taught that the slaves were forced to work to pick tobacco and cotton. They were working hard even though the sun is burning their skin. They've got nothing to do but to work hard cause someone's watching over them and will hit them if they are being sluggish. For them to be alive while working, they sing songs called work songs. They convey they feel that time through work song.

We are asked some questions and these are:

Explain the feeling that you get when you listen to these songs?
-I feel pity for them. I can feel the pain when they sing. That they can't do anything to get their own freedom. The pity that makes me want to help them to ease their pain but I know I can't. The unity to make a beautifully harmonized voices is so smooth to hear but the agony is still there.

What kind of information about slavery did you learn from these songs?
-The information that I learn about slavery from these songs is that they are really longing to get back to their home, that they want to come back to where they belong and that the hope still remains in their hearts despite the cruel treatment of life to them. Slavery never did well for everyone. Slavery wasn't welcome to the life of people but still won to trap them and chained them until they suffer to death.

What can you relate to in any of these songs?
-Unlike them, I own myself and I'm responsible for taking care of it. The song 'Sweet Chariot' really captured my heart and it goes inside me. The feeling of yearning to come back home is matching with my feeling. I understand how sore it is when you want to go home but you can't. Endurance is such an important thing for this. Without endurance, the pain will continue to stab you and will make you weak.

What do you think the slaves are talking about in these songs?
-The life of being a slave. The hardship going through the ruthless hand of white people. The misery that they experienced and the greedy life that takes all their rights of living.

Here you can listen to the song 'Sweet Chariot"

Keyboard Skills

Today's blog is all about keyboard skills. Below are the questions about what's happening in my ability in playing the keyboard.

Which song did chose to work and why?
I used the song Despacito because I am more familiar with the song than the other options. Also, Despacito is kinda fun for me to play.

Which parts have you found challenging?
The parts that I found challenging was the repeating notes. It was like sometimes I lack one note then sometimes I tap more than it should be. The finger positioning was challenging for me too.I don't know what fingers to use to play in the first note but no worries because I've managed to finish the parts.

How are you feeling about the skills test and performance?
With a little more practice, I can be satisfied if I'll do it more correctly and precisely. The skill test was great because I somehow now learn a new song to play.

Slave Trade Triangle Map

What is the Slave Trade Triangle?
The Slave Trade Triangle is the intruding of Europeans in the place of Africans and made them slaves to barter them with guns, equipment, and goods.
What is the First Passage?
The First Passage is the voyage of the Portuguese to Africa which they carried guns and invaded Africa to get slaves and used them to take in the Carribean.

What is the Middle Passage?
The African slaves were taken to the ship which is their first time riding that kind of thing. They've been molested, treated so cruel and killed thousands of them. After the ship journey, they have been taken in the South Carolina and they are the first batch to be taken there.
The slaves have been traded with cotton, tobacco and other products.
What is the Third Passage?
The Europeans came back to Europe to take the traded goods and used them to bought guns and weapons. Then the cycle came again.

Human Rights

My Top 5 Human Rights

Last Friday we are assigned to do a poster and pick our top 5 Human Rights.
My top 5 are:
  • Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind.
I choose this human right because it is important to distinguish who are the ones will obtain the rights and I love how this Article mentioned that everyone without distinction of any kind.
  • Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of a person.
I choose this human right because it states that we have the right to live our lives in our own ways and as a person, it is one of the most important things in our existence in this world.
  • Everyone has the right to freedom of thought conscience and religion.
We all know that we have different opinions on life and it is important to express our own thoughts. Religion is one of the fundamental things that is being treasured and cherished to most of the people.
  • Everyone has the right to rest and leisure.
This human right is also crucial because as a human being we have limited capacity for living. We are human beings that live to work and we can't work all day because resting is needed to gain energy to work for the next day.
  • Everyone has the rights to education.
This article expresses that everyone is allowed to education because learning is our purpose in our life, without learning we will not have the knowledge to do things and I choose this right as one of the most important rights.

Tips for Practical Ergonomics at your Workplace

This blog is about ergonomic infographic which is our first lesson for the Term 1 in Digital Technology (DTE). I used Piktochart for my ergonomic infographic. I tried Canva and Vengage but I found Piktochart more manageable to use. I chose Piktochart because it has more graphics that are useful to my infographic like the icons that you can see in my infographic. Sometimes Piktochart does lag when I use it. It just suddenly stops and then I can't edit my work anymore but fortunately, it saves my work which makes me be satisfied besides the fact that it lags.

In my infographic shows what are practical ergonomics when you are at work. There you can see tips which are essential things you can do when you are using your computer , sitting, movement and there are also more tips when you're at your workplace.

Reflection:
It was fun editing my ergonomic infographic and I am really satisfied with the outcome of my piece. I've learned that making an ergonomic infographic should be consistent. Consistent with fonts, icons, structure of how you do the paragraphs and etc. At first, my infographic was not really had consistency but thanks to Mr. Carter he taught me how to make it more look like an infographic. If next time we'll do this kind of work, I'll make sure that I'll manage my time to do it faster than I did last time.

Thank you!

  3. We made sure that we did take sharp edges utensils carefully and use it correctly.(Personal Safety)

What did you do to ensure that your food was safe?
-We checked if the tools that we used are clean. We also made sure that the food that we ate is edible.

Why is meat patties not okay to eat raw?
-Meat patties not okay to eat raw because the bacteria are still there so if we eat obviously the bacteria will be transmitted to us.According to http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au, the raw and not cooked patties may carry disadvantageous bacteria that are pathogenic bacteria called Escherichia coli (E.coli).The said bacteria can cause a bad effect on blood and blood vessels.

Explain a step you took yesterday to avoid contamination.
- The step we took yesterday to avoid cross-contamination is after we mixed the meat with the other ingredients we ensured that we cleaned our hands before touching other things and food.

                                         Chicken and Rice Patties
Image result for chicken and rice patties
Author: PlanningQueen
Recipe type: Finger food

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups cooked jasmine rice (about 1 cup uncooked)
  • 1 chicken breast
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oils
  • 1 large carrots
  • 3 spring onions stalks
  • 1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
  • 3 eggs
Method:

  1. Preheat oven  to 200 degrees celsius
  2. Slice chicken breast in half widthways, so it will cook through quicker
  3. Heat oil in a medium frying pan and cook chicken breast until it begins to brown.
  4. Remove from pan and shred chicken using a fork and set aside.
  5. Grate carrot so you have at least 1 cup.
  6. Finely slice spring onions.
  7. Lightly beat the eggs.
  8. In a large bowl, add cooked rice, chicken, carrot, spring onions, eggs and about 3/4  of the cheese and mix well.
  9. Spray muffin trays with cooking spray and then spoon mixture into the trays. Top with the remaining cheese.
  10. Place in the oven for 15 mins until the tops turn golden brown.
  11. Let them sit in the trays for a few minutes before removing the rack to cool. Use a knife to work around the edges of the rice patties to make removing them easier. This recipe made 12 chicken and rice patties.

Reflection:
Yesterday's practicum was great. We did our cooking with much more organized and planned. We manage to communicate and help each other to finish our work. The final result of the food was delicious. What I don't like about yesterday's work was the oven. We couldn't use our own oven because we are told that ours was slow in baking so we have to share with other's oven. We shared the oven with two groups, separately because we have two trays. Unfortunately, the other group didn't turn on the oven that made them waited for a long time, and us too. Still, the outcome of the food was delicious so it was worth it.

How we applied Personal Safety, Food Safety, and Hygiene?

For Personal Safety, before we started cooking we took our bags in the back so that it won't be a hinder to us while cooking, we also make sure that the floor is not slippery and we made sure that we are careful while using the tools with sharp edges and didn't run around. For the Food Safety, we made sure that we used the right chopping board, the heat is at the right temperature, we didn't do nasty things at the front of the foods and we followed the correct instructions. Lastly Hygiene, of course, we washed our hands first which is the most fundamental parts of hygiene, we tied up our hair back for girls and we used aprons before setting in the cooking session.

Things to do better:

If we were going to cook again, I would like to have a better communication between us, more positive thinking, better mindset and focus, and be more confident to cook. To build communication, we should know to respect each other's ability and accept that we are in one group. For positive thinking, we should not be discouraged that we cannot cook but be inspired more because we are here in the course HomeEc because we are learning how to cook. To have better mindset and focus, we should know how to balance our roles while we are in the kitchen. And to be more confident, we should acknowledge ourself that we can do the cooking.

Tricky Paper Folding

The best lesson that I enjoyed is the Paper Folding. I like it because like what I said in the title it's tricky and fun. You need to use your thinking and creativity to solve the problem.

10 TN Social Studies Treaty

What is this all about?
This is the formed treaty in our class. We all agreed and understand all the rules and sealed it with signatures. The treaty serves as the rules while we are in the period of Social Studies and it's good so that everyone will not wander around doing some non-sense stuff.
How is this same with the Treaty of Waitangi?
It is same as the Treaty of Waitangi in terms of having people decide what rule to declare and also it has something that is useful for everybody.
What is the difference?
The difference between ours and the Treaty of Waitangi is that ours has a limited time while Treaty of Waitangi still exists.
