RESEARCH- “Paradise of Hell” is an oxymoron. Find out why oxymorons are used for. Find five more examples of Oxymorons that are used in the ‘real world’ and give their meanings. Have a go at creating your own oxymorons.
VOCABULARY - Find the meanings of the following words, write the meaning using your own words: Reverential, Distinguish, Violated, Scrounge, Astonished, Consolation, Gallantry, Stern, Begrudging, Crusade
WRITING - Life at the fairgrounds is unpleasant. Choose to write either a day in the life of someone at the fairgrounds or a conversation between two captives at the fairgrounds as they plan an escape.
CREATE- The teenagers have now been scavenging for resources to take back into Hell. Create a checklist of essential items you believe they should be looking for. For each item, give a reason to include it and a location they could likely find it. Think about food, shelter, warmth, communication.
VOCABULARY
Reverential- showing the huge standard of respect
Distinguish- tell the difference
Violated- the act of not following a certain rule or law
Scrounge- stealing things like food and money with the use of others
Astonished- shocked; stunned
Consolation- giving comfort to people that are in pain or loss
Gallantry- providing such a strong and courageous behavior especially in a fight or battle
Stern- hard to turn down; stands strongly with the person’s reasons
Begrudging- nonchalantly fulfilling something
Crusade- strong stand to do whatever you believe
RESEARCH
Oxymoron is a type of figures of speech in which two contrasting ideas are combined to create a thought.
Examples:
Perfectly imperfect- the flaws that make a person perfect
He was like a perfect man to all of them but she loved the girl with full of flaws that made her perfectly imperfect to his eyes.
Deafening silence- the silence that seems so loud
After the painful argument between us, there was the deafening silence and made the atmosphere awkward.
Clearly confused- shown that a person is really confused
Even though everything was explained to her, her face shows that she is clearly confused.
Act naturally- to act like the normal behavior at ease
Just act naturally when you with him. Pretend like you know him so that it won’t be hard.
Bittersweet- a satisfaction at the same time mixed with agony and melancholy.
The let go that I made for her was bittersweet, it hurts while I’m happy.
